Eco Printing on Fabric

Eco printing is a natural dyeing technique that captures pigments from individual leaves and flowers directly on fabric.  To create successful eco prints, fabric is pretreated with a mordant which binds the plant pigments to the fabric.  Plants are then placed on the fabric, bundled tightly around a dowel and steamed to release the plant pigments onto the fabric.  When each bundle is unwrapped after steaming, it’s like Christmas!  The results are delightful and not always fully predictable.

Join Mary DeLano for this beginner eco printing class.  Mary taught eco printing in New England for over ten years and recently moved to New Mexico where she is delighted to explore the wonderful plants of the Southwest.  Since not every plant prints, Mary carefully tests target plants to see whether they will create beautiful images.  Join Mary in this journey and learn which plants in your neighborhood will leave lasting images.  Mary will supply two yards of pretreated fabric for each student, including cotton, linen, silk and a silk scarf.  With pretreated fabric in hand, student will dive directly into eco printing and will leave the class with many pieces that can be incorporated into quilts and other textile pieces.

The class will meet on Saturday, August 15th 10-4 with a break for lunch.  Feel free to bring a lunch or you can get lunch from nearby restaurants.

CANCELLATION and REFUND POLICY:

Classes fill up quickly so it is essential to PRE-REGISTER.  If a cancellation is received at least SEVEN DAYS before the first day of class, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 20% administration fee.  Cancellations received fewer than SEVEN DAYS in advance will not be refunded for any reason, including illness. If a class is canceled by Stitchology, you will receive a full refund.

Some classes do require you to come to class with your project precut or that you work on "homework" between class sessions. We use the most size inclusive patterns we can. It is your responsibility to ensure the pattern will fit. If you do not fall within the size parameters for the pattern you will need to make arrangements with us to have your pattern altered before the day of class. Please understand, if you are not prepared we cannot guarantee you will be able to attend/or finish the class.  If the teacher is unable to accommodate you, you will not be refunded the class fee. If you are allowed to attend class, you will not receive any additional instruction time.  If you need help prepping for the class or finishing you may arrange for help prior to or after the class for an additional fee.

If your class requires any supplies they can be purchased at Stitchology and you will receive a 10% discount.  **In store only**
